Moya
With the colour and tone of a rich red wine, Moya’s voice, like her personality has something timeless yet poignant in those deep heart felt hazy tones. Whether she is belting it out over the mic in a small secluded country pub, or singing and playing her guitar gently in a dark, run down club, the passion in her voice brings people flocking to the dance floor, like bees to honey, and you can’t help but feel touched by the melancholy in her voice, almost as if you feel she is singing her whole life story to you in just that one song.
Although versatile with many different styles, and a gigging band history of great proportion, it is when she sings love ballads or songs from the heart that she truly steals you away to memories long forgotten. Unlocking that door deep within your heart. Very much a romantic, this aspect of her personality clearly reflects in her voice, and she has a very deep and powerful effect on you. She takes you back to a time when childhood innocence and fairy tale dreams were all you knew, before they were lost or broken by the words or actions of another.
A contradiction in terms. Moya is sensitive, passionate yet positively infectious, and after 5 minutes from chatting to her, you feel like you have known her all your life, like a friendship lost and found again, but she drives the conversation and talking to her is like trying to hold the trickle of a mountain stream. Fun, sociable, and very open, she immediately puts you at ease and loves nothing better than going out and performing on stage or watching others do the same over a few drinks.
Some of her influences are Judith Durham and The seakers. She says, “I just loved Judith’s voice, and used to sing all her songs around the house”. In her own words she says “Singing comes to me like chocolate to children!”, this is her passion and has always defined her direction in life. Being around other musicians and performing with them, and with those moments shared are where her feelings always seem to take her.
